Your choice comes first

Before anything leaves your device, The Lab shows you a consent screen explaining what we save and why, and asks you to agree. Nothing is uploaded until you do. That screen is deliberately short; this page is the full account, and it is linked directly from it. The two sections that matter most are Who processes it (the services that handle your data, including the AI that writes your coaches’ replies) and Your camera and photos.

If you decline, the app runs in local-only mode — warm-ups, the mindset course, build-your-own training, and the exercise library all work, and nothing is sent to our servers or to Anthropic.

You can change your mind at any time in the app under Account → “Privacy & data.” Turning cloud storage off stops all uploads immediately and disables the AI coaches; the same screen lets you delete everything we already hold.

What we collect

The Lab is a golf performance coaching app. To build your training plan and power your coaches, we collect what you give us:

  • Account basics — your name and email address.
  • Golf profile — handicap, scoring, playing schedule, and goals.
  • Body basics — age range, sex, height, and weight.
  • Health and training inputs — pain levels and locations, injury history, recovery status, movement-screen results, and daily check-ins (sleep, energy, mood, soreness, and optional values like HRV and resting heart rate).
  • Your conversations with the AI coaches, and any notes you type into the app.

How we use it

One purpose: coaching you. Your data generates your daily plan, calibrates training intensity to how you’re recovering, and gives your AI coaches the context to answer like coaches who know you. We don’t use it for anything else.

We never sell your data. We never use it for advertising. Health and fitness data is never shared with third parties for marketing — including anything you may later import from Apple Health.

Who processes it

  • Supabase hosts our database and handles sign-in. Your data is stored there, protected by row-level access rules.
  • Anthropic powers the AI coaches — this is the one place your data is processed by a third-party AI service. Before your first message to a coach, the app shows you a disclosure naming Anthropic and itemizing exactly what is sent, and asks your permission. Nothing is sent to Anthropic unless you agree. What we send: your messages in the coach chat, your golf and body profile, your recent check-ins and today’s readiness, your logged training (exercises, loads, reps and effort) and round debriefs, your nutrition and hydration logs, your movement and posture screen results, and any open injury notes. Under Anthropic’s commercial API terms this data is not used to train their models, and Anthropic is contractually required to protect it to a standard equal to our own. It is never sold and never used for advertising. You can withdraw this permission at any time under Account → “Privacy & data” → “Share with the AI coaches,” which stops all sharing with Anthropic while leaving the rest of the app working; turning off cloud storage entirely stops all uploads as well.
  • Vercel hosts the app itself.

Apple Health

The iOS app can import HRV, resting heart rate, and sleep from Apple Health — only if you tap Import, and only after you grant permission on your device. Imported values fill in your daily check-in exactly like typing them yourself, follow all the rules on this page, and are never used for advertising. The app reads from Apple Health and does not write to it.

Your camera and photos

The movement screen asks you to photograph your standing and setup posture. Those photos are analyzed on your device and are never uploaded — we do not store the image anywhere. Only the posture measurements calculated from them (joint angles and the resulting fault list) are saved to your account.

Not medical care

The Lab’s AI coaches provide general performance and training guidance. They do not diagnose, treat, or replace medical professionals. The app is built to recognize its limits: significant pain (7/10 or higher) always routes you to an in-person evaluation rather than a training prescription.

Young athletes

Many of our athletes are competitive juniors. A parent or guardian can exercise any right on this page — including full account deletion — on a minor’s behalf by contacting us at the address below.

Retention & deletion

We keep your data while your account is active, so your coaching history stays useful to you. Delete your account any time in the app — Account → “Delete my account” — and everything is permanently removed: profile, check-ins, workouts, assessments, and every coach conversation. This is immediate and cannot be undone.

Withdrawing consent and deleting data are separate choices. Turning off cloud storage stops any further uploads but leaves what we already hold; deleting removes it. You can do either, or both, from Account → “Privacy & data.”
